Coffee: Robusta’s value surpasses Arabica’s for the first time in history

Since Thursday, 20, the CEPEA / ESALQ Indicator of the robust type 6 sieve 13 above, to be withdrawn in Espírito Santo, has been surpassing the CEPEA / ESALQ Indicator of the type 6 arabica, hard drink for the better, placed in São Paulo, a scenario that had never been verified by Cepea, considering the entire research history, started in 2001 for robusta. On Tuesday, 25, the Robusta Indicator was 2.4 reais / 60 kg bag above the Arabica Indicator.

According to Cepea researchers, the upward movement in robusta prices has been taking place since mid-March and, for more than two months, the robusta indicator has reached a daily real record. This scenario is a reflection of the low grain supply, especially of type 6, which is considered in the Indicator. Restricted supply, in turn, is linked to the unfavorable climate in the variety producing regions in Brazil in the last two years.

Dry weather hampered grain development, resulting in very significant yield breaks. On Tuesday, the CEPEA / ESALQ Indicator of the robust type 6 sieve 13 above closed at R $ 529.11 / 60 kg bag, up 4.3% from the previous Tuesday, 18. The CEPEA / ESALQ Indicator of the type 6 arabica hard drink for the better, placed in São Paulo, closed at R $ 526.71 / 60 kg bag, up 2.2% compared to the previous Tuesday.
